Puerto Calero - Lanzarote's Fourth Resort
Transfer time from airport - 20 to 25 mins approx
Puerto Calero started life as a sports marina back in the 1990's but has since evolved into a holiday resort in its own right. Boasting two good quality hotels along with plenty of decent bars and restaurants.
It's primary function remains as a berth for expensive yachts from around the world - so the marina remains a great spot for people watching. But it's not just a spot for millionaire's any more - as tourists visit here in their droves and there are a number of affordable holiday villas in Puerto Calero available for rent to anyone who wants to sample the lifestyle here.
Shopping - Paseo de Moda
Fashionistas will love Puerto Calero as the Paseo de Moda here boasts a number of big brand names that don’t have much of a presence in other parts of the island. If your tastes (and budget) stretch to the likes of Helly Hansen, DKNY and Tommy Hilfiger then Puerto Calero is the place to do your clothes shopping.
Things To Do
Puerto Calero is home to two of the most popular excursions on Lanzarote. The Catlanza catamaran takes tourists on a delightful voyage of discovery along the islands southern coastline, anchoring off the beaches at Papagayo where guests can enjoy a free lunch and drinks from the bar, or indulge their passion for snorkelling or jet skiing.
Alternatively holiday makers can head beneath the waves to encounter the undersea world around Lanzarote with Submarine Safaris. Their multi million pound Yellow Submarine has been specially designed for sub aquatic sightseeing and dives throughout the day - enabling families to encounter the marine life here at close quarters.
As you'd expect in a marina it's also possible to indulge in other marine based activities such as fishing and diving. But beach lovers should note that there is not a stretch of sand in Puerto Calero - although you can plunge into the water from one of the platforms located to the rear of the marina.
